As a young child Lucia spoke the classic and whimsical words of: ‘When I grow up, I want to run away and join the circus.’ Of course, it wasn’t until she was a little bit older that people started to take notice and realise, that what she had said, wasn’t child talk.
With a natural flair for the performing arts, her younger years were spent training from the age of 3 in classical ballet and then progressing into jazz, tap, musical theatre, acrobatics and calisthenics. Seeking a little bit more thrill, Carbines moved onto bigger and more dangerous sports and started training in horse vaulting at the age of 11. She began competing in this field, placing in states and winning the vaulting national title for the Pa De Deus devision of her age in 2007.
But it wasn’t until she was 14 years old that she discovered her innate and unusual talent of being able to bend so fluidly in half, that put her on the pathway to her career. Truly passionate about the art form she found herself in, Carbines busked to pay for her training. Performing violin solos on the street with the accompaniment of her dog who she would often dress up. She started training meticulously in contortion and aerial arts, and was chosen for the Aerial Angels’ Elite team where she further developed her skills in Silks, Lyra and Trapeze, and by 17 years old, Lucia was performing professionally.
Performing high profile corporate events and functions around Australia and the Australasia Pacific in both Aerial and contortion. Lucia then acquired a leading role in a major production. In 2012 and 2013 she starred in ‘LumiAir a Cirque Extraordinaire,’ as the lead character ‘Diamond,’ at Jupiter’s Casino on the Gold Coast. Within this time she also performed a death defying stunt act, aptly titled, ‘High Wire Motorbike Trapeze,’ and ‘Globe of Death,’ at the Grand Prix, Formula 1 in Melbourne for both 2013 and 2014.
Lucia has just recently returned home to Australia after performing for 4 seasons as ‘Miss A in a Bubble,’ with the New York smash hit, ‘Empire’ by Spiegelworld. She was apart of an extensive world tour throughout Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Canada and the United States.
Her unique and innovative combination of movement is what sets her apart and makes Lucia Carbines such a captivating performer to watch.
